PAUL Parry may have been part of Hereford United's last great cup run, but the Cardiff City star is hoping he won't become one of the Bulls' latest victims.

The Wales international spent seven years at Edgar Street before getting his break at Ninian Park in a £75,000 switch in January 2004.

The attacking midfielder is now eagerly anticipating his return to Hereford for Sunday's FA Cup fourth round clash.

"I have some great memories of my time there," Parry said. "I spent seven years there, albeit in the Conference, but it was a good time for me.

"Hereford always seem to have done well in the cup - it goes back to Ronnie Radford. I was part of the side that drew with Leicester when we got to the third round.

"They have a good cup tradition but hopefully we won't be another name to add to their list."

Parry joined the Bulls as a schoolboy before making the switch to the Welsh capital which also saw him making his international debut one month later.

He admits he is indebted to Hereford boss Graham Turner, adding: "He gave me my chance so I owe a lot to him.

"He used to keep telling me that my big chance would come.

"There were a couple of other clubs who showed an interest but they didn't move for me and he would keep telling me to be patient and that if I kept playing my football I'd get my big break. Then Cardiff came in and he was delighted for me.

"I haven't spoken to him for a couple of seasons but I think it must be nice for him to see me do well.

"It would be great to go back there and catch up."

Parry is enjoying his time with the Bluebirds, who are now pushing for a place in the play-off places in the Championships after a poor start to the campaign, and last weekend bagged a brace in the 3-3 draw at West Brom.

During his time with Cardiff, the 27-year-old has gone on to win 11 caps for Wales.
