TEENAGER Charlie Martin announced himself on the Worcester motorsport scene with success at Grimley Raceway's Bank Holiday meeting.

Worcester 15-year-old Martin won the inaugural meeting of the junior hot rods, a new formula aimed at attracting youngsters into the sport.

Event organiser Alan Lewis said: "It's a new formula we have started this year and the idea of it is to give local youngsters aged between 12 and 16 the opportunity to race smart-looking saloons up to 1100cc with low preparation costs."

A bumper crowd of more than 1,000, boosted by the weather, witnessed eight formulas throughout the day, including the guest formula Grand Prix Midgets.

Worcester's Phil Waldron also entertained the spectators with his ramp-rollover during the interval.

The next meeting is scheduled for Monday, May 26.
