Warriors young guns triumph at Sixways

SIXWAYS stars of the future came out on top in the inaugural Harrison Clark Under Sevens Cup.

The Worcester Warriors mini-junior team triumphed ahead of sides from Rugby, Sandal, Hucclecote, Cheltenham and Moseley.

The tournament was staged on the main stadium pitch at Sixways and there was also an under eights category as well as a tag rugby competition.

The Worcester youngsters have been coached together since September and many of the players who took part are in their second year of rugby in the club's mini-juniors section.

All of them have turned up with their parents throughout the season in all kinds of weather to play rugby.

The club aims to teach children the basics of rugby as well as the disciplines and behaviour associated with the game.

Head coach Gareth Llewellyn said: "We believe as a club that rugby should be fun and also that every child should have an equal opportunity to play in games and tournaments.

"The tournament is played as a pool so there is no final and the winner is decided by the highest number of points.

"Our team scored 13 out of a maximum 15 points, having won four games and drawn one.

"We also scored maximum points in the fairplay award.

This was the first year that Worcester-based law firm Harrison Clark LLP have sponsored the tournament.

Jonathan Brew, senior partner and head of the family law department, said: "We are absolutely delighted to support such a worthy cause that encourages young people to take part in something that they enjoy and develops team spirit.

"We look forward to following the careers of our budding rugby stars and wish them well in all future tournaments."
