Malvern pair set to start

MALVERN duo Ryan Watkins and Ryan Henshaw will start for North Midlands in the second game of this season's County Championship Shield against Cumbria at Stourbridge tomorrow (3pm).

Stand-off Watkins has been brought in to replace Luctonians teenager Alex James who impressed in last week's win against Durham.

Worcester Warriors academy flanker Jake Abbott, who plays for Stourbridge, starts at openside.

On the bench, former King's School Worcester student Richard Protherough, of Coventry, replaces Luctonians' Nick Byron, a former Australia Under 21 international hooker.

Malvern's Ollie Jones is also among the replacements.

The top team in the North group will win promotion to the County Championship Bill Beaumont Cup, from which North Mids were relegated last season.

North Midlands: Lloyd-Jones (Stourbridge); Summers (Stourbridge), Winter (Moseley), Mitchell (Pertemps Bees), Henshaw (Malvern); Watkins (Malvern), Ward (Sutton Coldfield); Sturdy (Stourbridge), Bick (Pertemps Bees), Tideswell (Stourbridge), Davidson (Pertemps Bees, captain), Betts (Moseley), Daws (Stourbridge), Abbott (Stourbridge), Evans (Moseley). Replacements: Protherough (Coventry), Coles (Moseley), Fowles (Nuneaton), Jones (Malvern), McIntosh (Dudley Kingswinford), Gowland (Dudley Kingswinford), Townsend (Leicester Lions).
