Malvern clubs in Mercian final joy

THE Mercian Festival Junior League completed their cup finals with the older youths' finals at Malvern Town.

AFC Malvern Under 15s took the Andy Wardroper Memorial Trophy by beating Droitwich Spa Youth 4-0.

But Droitwich's Steve Keay was man-of-the-match for his tireless efforts.

Malvern's Newtown Sports claimed a double with their Colts Under 14s seeing off Evesham United Juniors 4-3 after extra-time to hold the Wayne Phillpotts Memorial Shield.

The Juniors Under 13s of Newtown Sports beat Evesham United Juniors 1-0 in the Trophy World Cup final although Sam Goodhall was man-of-the-match for United.

Welland Juniors Lions Under 12s picked up the Ron Handy Memorial Shield with a 3-0 win over Oldbury Park Tigers. The Lions' man-of-the-match was keeper Rory Owen.

Evesham United Girls Under 13s defeated Stourport Royals 6-0 in the Mercian League Shield final with Ella Parry-Reece playing a starring role.

League chairman George Silverman said this year's finals were the best yet.

Mid-week league games, U10s: Welland Juniors Lions 2, Cradley Sports 1.

U11s: Welland Juniors Colts 0, Newtown Sports Juniors 2; Malvern Town Wanderers 1, Welland Juniors Lions 6.

U13s: Malvern Town Wanderers 6, Newtown Sport Colts 1.

U14s: Oldbury Park Tigers 1, Newtown Sport Colts 7.

U16s: Worcester Raiders 2, Callowbrook Swifts Colts 1.
