HARNESS racing enthusiasts opened their season at the 12-race Tregaron Spring Festival with a flourish despite strong opposition from Irish visitors.
Though the maiden events were liberally peppered with guests from all over the UK, both divisions saw impressive victories for local young horses.
The home-bred Kentucky Sunrise powered clear with Hundred House driver Jamie Davies to open a promising campaign for owners Lou Evans and Roz Davies.
Meanwhile, Henry and Heulwen Bulman's Mahogany Import pulverized the opposition with Colin Bevan.
The colt's electrifying speed was all the more satisfying as he had suffered a career-threatening injury last year.
Peter O'Davies and Karen Lowes have fitted in their training regime around a busy lambing season but Symlog Immortelle rewarded their efforts with a stylish win, superbly partnered by Huw Thomas.
The first fixture of 2008 at Allensmore on Sunday promises to be a competitive affair with a minimum of seven races from 2pm.
