CITY crews enjoyed a whole host of successes at Worcester Rowing Club's annual spring regatta.

More than 100 crews from across England took part in the competition, raced over 750 metres between the River Severn road bridge and Pitchcroft.

Despite overcast conditions, the rain held off as crews from local clubs held their own against rivals from Nottingham, Kent, Christchurch and Birmingham.

However, it was Worcester-based crews who made a name for themselves at the popular event.

Host club Worcester got the ball rolling by winning the veteran B coxed fours and senior four doubles.

Royal Grammar School Alice Ottley were also in fine form, defeating Worcester in the final of the men's novice doubles.

It was also a great day of racing for the University of Worcester as they scooped the women's senior four, coxed four, the women's novice coxed four and the lunchtime mixed events.

Visiting crews got in on the act as well with the likes of Birmingham, Upper Thames, Stratford-upon-Avon and Christchurch securing victories.

The regatta was attended by more than 200 rowers, an increase on 12 months ago, and the club are hoping for an even better turn-out next year.
