TOMORROW’S visit of Surrey Heat (7.30pm) will be the first home game of 2013 for Worcester Wolves and we are aiming to continue our good record at the University of Worcester.

We have only lost once on our own court all season — the opening-day defeat to Durham Wildcats in September — and it’s a record we’re very proud of.

We want to try and defend that to the best of our ability and keep that winning mentality going.

Being able to train on the court that we play on is one thing we have that other teams don’t so we are quite fortunate in that respect. It allows the players to get a feel for the place and gets them used to the floor and backboards.

We like playing at home because, whether we have played well or indifferently, the team have found ways to win here.

If we can keep our home form going that would be great and we have also got some away games coming up that I feel we can win.

We just need to be playing consistently now to get into some sort of rhythm because it’s been very stop-start since the Christmas break.

With that in mind, it was frustrating to have to postpone last Friday’s game against London Lions because we hadn’t played for over two weeks and were very much looking forward to it.

But the Lions couldn’t get out of London due to the weather so we had no choice but to cancel the game.

However, we had no problems getting to Durham on Sunday and returned with a 98-91 victory, after which Stan Ocitti was named on the bench in the British Basketball League team of the week.

We were a bit rusty at the start and it certainly showed that we hadn’t played for a while because we were half-a-step slower than them.

But we readjusted things in the second-half and it was a hard-fought victory and one that we needed, particularly on the road.

Durham have only won three games all season but they are a very talented team and on their day they will surprise a few people. For me, it was an excellent win because they had us on the ropes for a while.

Away from the Wolves, the BBL have thrown their support behind a petition to get the government and Sport England to look at restoring Olympic funding to the sport.

Everybody involved in the game is very disappointed that there hasn’t been any funding allocated for Great Britain moving forward to Rio in 2016.

The team had a great campaign last year and achieved what they were supposed to — moving up a level in European competition. They were only able to do that because of the funding they had.

With that money there was a chance of qualifying for the Olympics again but without it there’s no chance.
