WOLVES centre Robert Thurman has become the first player to be named in the British Basketball League team of the week three times this season.

The 6ft 10ins American picked up his latest nomination following his 23-point haul in the 83-78 victory over London Lions at the University Arena.

Thurman also missed out on recording a double-double by just one rebound in last Friday’s clash.

Worcester director of basketball Paul James said: “Robert is doing well and a lot of credit has to go to the players for getting him the ball in a position where he can score.

“He could still be a little bit more consistent with his play but I think he’s getting his head around that.”

The 25-year-old was a summer replacement for Will Creekmore and arrived at the club at the same time as point guard Chavis Holmes, who took over from Zaire Taylor.

James said: “I think Chavis has done a fantastic job in controlling the tempo of the game and he’s starting to come into his own now.

“He did a great job in finding him, as did the rest of the team, and Robert did a great job in finishing.”

The Worcester head coach added: “I think Chavis was always going to be a quality player. He’s played in this league before and I am delighted to have him board because I think he’s just the kind of player we need.

“He’s very level headed, doesn’t get emotional and let things bother him and he’s very focused and assured on the ball.”

Thurman is joined in the select quintet by JaJuan Smith of Glasgow Rocks, Manchester Giants’ Stefan Gill, Doug Herring from Bristol Flyers and Leeds Force’s William Hall.

Wolves are in action twice this weekend, starting with a home match against Manchester Giants at the University Arena tomorrow (7.30pm).

They then travel to Surrey United for a rescheduled game on Saturday (7pm).
