HEAD coach Paul James believes Worcester Wolves will be a better team for their two narrow victories over the weekend.

Wolves moved into the British Basketball League Trophy quarter-finals, where they will face Leicester Riders, with an 86-84 triumph over Durham Wildcats on Sunday, just 24 hours after edging past Bristol Flyers 69-68 to stay second in the league.

James said: “Sunday was the second game of a weekend where we had to tough out victories.

“Durham are a side full of shooters so it was always possible that they would get back into the match.

“On Sunday, and at Bristol, we showed that we can triumph in tight games. The experience will stand us in good stead as we progress down the stretch of the season.”

James also reckons there is more to come from new signing Dejan Radojevic after he put a quiet debut behind him on Saturday to score 20 points against Durham.

The 6ft 11ins power forward joined the University Arena club last week following a spell in his native Serbia.

Wolves chief James, whose side host Sheffield Sharks on Friday night, said: “Dejan learnt from Saturday. He agreed with me that he should become more aggressive.

“I told him that when we give him the ball he needs to take it straight to the hoop. He made a big contribution on Sunday and can only get even better once he integrates more into our system.”

While Wolves take on Leicester in the BBL Trophy last eight, Glasgow Rocks face Newcastle Eagles, London Lions host Sheffield Sharks and Surrey United do battle with Plymouth Raiders.
