PAUL Guede admitted he could have joined Worcester Wolves in the summer but for an untimely groin injury.

The 28-year-old Great Britain guard has proved a hit since joining the University Arena club in December.

Head coach Paul James had been tracking Guede during the summer while he was plying his trade was with Slovakian team Prievidza.

But he suffered a groin problem at a GB training camp in Worcester before the campaign started and spent four months on the sidelines.

He is now aiming to make up for lost time and help Wolves challenge for honours in the British Basketball League.

Guede said: “I was hurt for four months prior to coming here and I was aching to play.

“I know PJ from the past and I was keeping in contact with him throughout my progress with the injury. Finally, when I got cleared to play, I wanted to come here.

“We spoke about it at the end of last season but I am happy it’s worked out. We’re winning so I can’t complain.

“Wolves won things last year and are really professional about the way they go about things.

“They were doing great before I got here and I was hoping to come in and help them build on that. It’s been going well so far.”

Guede, who has also played for Goettingen in Germany, has already become a fans’ favourite.

He said: “The fans have welcomed me here. It’s been a joy to play in front of them and I appreciate their support so far.”

Meanwhile, Wolves have launched six new community hubs for people to get involved with basketball.

Six schools across Worcestershire and Herefordshire are hosting sessions aimed at attracting new players, coaches and volunteers.

The project, for anyone aged over eight, is a three-year funded venture and offers competitions for men and women at junior and senior levels, coaching qualifications and training in first aid and child protection training.

Players from Wolves will also be on hand to visit and give demonstrations.

Sessions cost £3 and are run by a level two coach from the club.
