GUARD Disraeli Lufadeju looks set to miss the rest of Worcester Wolves’ season with a knee injury.

The 22-year-old faces surgery after damaging his left knee playing for the University of Worcester against Sheffield Hallam in a British Universities and Colleges Sport match.

But Lufadeju has also been a reliable performer for Wolves in the British Basketball League this season, scoring 110 points in 23 games.

Head coach Paul James, whose side take on Sheffield Sharks at the University Arena tonight (7.30pm), said: “Disraeli damaged his knee in a university game against Sheffield Hallam so it looks like he’s going to need surgery at some point. It looks like he’s out for the rest of the season.

“We’re still waiting for the definitive on it but he’s in a big knee cast right now and it doesn’t look good.

“He’s done fantastically well and probably been one of our most improved players this season. At times when we’ve been struggling and I’ve put him on he’s given us energy, defensive intensity, made some crucial shots and his game was really starting to come on.

“It’s a big loss for us so we’re going to have to try to fill that void.”

Wolves, who saw French forward Remi Dibo quit the club earlier this month, are unlikely to sign cover.

James said: “Things have happened at the wrong time and it’s just become a little bit of a bitty season as far as players coming and going is concerned which has been disappointing.

“We have still got enough talent here. If there’s somebody who could walk in right now and get it done then fine but if not we’ll just have to go with what we’ve got, but we are looking.”

Wolves take on Sheffield, their first home match for three weeks, aiming to bounce back from last Sunday’s heavy 89-60 defeat at Glasgow Rocks.

That result dropped them to third in the table, level on points with second-placed Leicester Riders but having played a game more.

Sheffield have lost their last five matches and occupy the final play-off spot in eighth position.

“It will be good to be back at home, it seems like we haven’t been at home for a long while now,” James said.

“We know it’s going to be a very physical, brutal game so we’ve got to be prepared for that. We’ve got to be calm and very methodical about what we do and put the stuff we’ve worked on in training into that game. I’m pretty sure we’re going to have a good response.

“It’s another tough test against a side still fighting for a play-off spot so they’re going to want to get a win and we’ve got to put last weekend behind us.”
