WORCESTER Wolves won’t be feeling any sympathy for struggling Plymouth University Raiders tonight (7.30pm), insists head coach Paul James.

Raiders are anchored to the foot of the British Basketball League after one win from seven matches this term.

James wants his Wolves side to be clinical at Plymouth Pavilions after beating the Devon side in each of the last five meetings.

A clutch three-pointer from Raiders’ player-coach Daryl Corletto downed Glasgow Rocks last Sunday to secure their first success of the season at the eighth attempt.

And Raiders have had a busy week, completing the double signing of Duane Bailey and Adrien Sturt following the release of BJ Anthony and Richie Edwards.

“I am not surprised Plymouth have made changes because they are getting a reputation for putting out a team one week and then a different team the next,” said James.

“They have been through a series of coaches over the last few seasons and close to 40 players in the last couple of seasons.”

Only Esh Group Eagles Newcastle have a better field goal percentage than Wolves (53.67) and just Leeds have converted a lower percentage of field goals than Raiders (45.05).

Wolves pipped Raiders 86-85 when the teams last met at the University of Worcester Arena in March.

James said: “Plymouth have been searching for the right combination of players to get a performance and be competitive.

“They have had some difficult times but our focus will be on what we do.

“If we can get our own game right and do what we know we are capable of doing, then I am confident we will get the win.”

Raiders’ forward Auryn Macmillan said it was a relief for Plymouth to finally secure their first win.

He said: “It was great to show everyone that we are capable of winning games in this league, especially given how under-manned we were and what a turbulent start we’ve had to the season on and off the court.

“But it doesn’t change anything that we haven’t already addressed in the last few weeks.

“I think it is just the first sign of progress since we started in our new direction with Daryl as coach.”

Macmillan added: “We’re making great progress in both those areas but, given we’re starting again from scratch with two new guys this week, there is still a long way to go.

“Beating Worcester is going to take 40 minutes of disciplined effort from all of our players and support staff, along with a great week of preparation in the lead-up.”
