WORCESTER Wolves must produce “smart, team basketball” against Bristol Flyers in tonight’s British Basketball League clash (7.30pm), insists forward Ben Eaves.

Wolves edged to a 78-76 win against Flyers when the teams met earlier in the season and Eaves expects a similar tussle at Bristol’s WISE Arena.

A short-handed Flyers crashed to a 84-57 home defeat against London Lions in their match game, a third reverse in four outings.

But Eaves said: “Flyers never say die so we know they are going to give us their best shot but our next few matches will be about us and what we can control and playing a full 40 minutes of smart, team basketball will be crucial.”

Pavol Losonsky scored 29 points for Wolves in September’s victory against Flyers at the University of Worcester.

Flyers guard Cardell McFarland missed his side's defeat Lions as an injury precaution, while forward Tyrone Lee has been struggling with a sprained ankle.

Flyers coach Andreas Kapoulas said “Worcester are one of the top teams in this league. They have a very good coach in Paul James and are very well-organised.

“Playing at home, we really want to win.

“We feel we haven't played well at home and we really look at this game as a game we need to win. Right now, the aim for us is to get healthy.

“We respect Worcester but, at the same time, we feel if we are healthy we can compete with them, and we want to get a big home win.”

Wolves produced a battling display in a 95-88 defeat to leaders Newcastle Eagles at Sport Central in their last away fixture.

Head coach Paul James said: “We played very well against Newcastle and gave ourselves a chance.

"We were in the game with two minutes to go and had a couple of shots to take the lead which we didn’t take.

“There’s a lot of things we need to work on. We’re making some rookie mistakes, and certainly our poor starts to games aren’t helping us. It’s a long season and it’s consistency that we’re after.”
