HEAD coach Paul James says Worcester Wolves are looking forward to facing three former fans’ favourites when they host London Lions on Sunday (3pm).

Alex Owumi, who had three successful years at Wolves before leaving in the summer, Kai Williams and Jamal Williams are set to return to the University of Worcester Arena for the British Basketball League encounter.

Owumi captained the side to the BBL play-offs and Trophy double in 2014 and James believes the American and the Williams brothers will be keen to prove a point in front of the home fans.

“Alex was with us for three years and was part of that history-making team,” James said.

“London have not had the best of starts since he moved there. They lost a couple of games last weekend and I am sure they will be coming to our place desperate to get a win.

“As well as Alex, you have got the Williams brothers who are exceptional players, and I am sure they will all be trying to not only prove a point to our fans, but to say they have moved to London and want to bring success there as well.”

New recruit Orlan Jackman will also go up against his former employers and James said the forward was keen to kick on following his 27-point haul in Wolves’ 108-92 win over Surrey Scorchers last Friday.

“Orlan will be wanting to put his best foot forward against London and I am sure he is very excited about the game,” James said.

“He is an exceptional basketball player and a guy who can create his own shots, but defensively he is going to bring us something. He is doing what I expected him to do so far.

“He has been a great addition to the team and hopefully he can stay consistent throughout the season, which I am sure he will do.”

James also revealed there was a chance Perris Blackwell could feature in the post-Christmas clash after recovering from his ankle injury, which saw him miss Wolves’ last two games.

“This weekend’s game might be a little bit too soon for Perris but we are going to monitor the situation,” he said.

“There is still plenty to play for this season, so there is no point rushing him back if he is not 100 per cent.

“He is not quite back to full training yet, but he has been working on his fitness, so we are looking at it day by day.”

There will be no slack for the Wolves players over the Christmas period.

James added: “They can celebrate it at the end of the season, can’t they?

“This is a professional club and I expect them to be professional about it.

“We are going to be training all over the period anyway. They will get Christmas Day off, but will be back at it on Boxing Day.

“We are also training on Christmas Eve, so there is not much rest.

“They just need to be sensible. They are paid to do a job and hopefully they understand that.”
