POWERFUL forward Perris Blackwell is set to give Worcester Wolves a “massive boost” when he makes his much-anticipated return at Bristol Flyers in the BBL Trophy on Saturday.

The 24-year-old has not featured since the two sides last met in November as an ankle injury ruled him out of Wolves’ December fixtures and their first match of 2016 against Surrey Scorchers.

But, after five weeks of rehab, head coach Paul James says he is looking forward to seeing Blackwell, who has scored 233 points in 13 games this season, back in action.

“We will see how he goes in training but we fully expect him to play a part in the game against Bristol,” he said.

“He could have potentially played against Surrey last week but we didn’t want to force him back if we didn’t need to, so he has had a few extra days of rest.

“To lose a player like Perris for a while did hurt us, so to have him back is a massive boost and he will just slot back into the team.”

James praised captain Pavol Losonsky for stepping up in the 6ft 9in American’s absence but he said Blackwell’s strength will give his side something extra.

“He offers us that big presence under the basket,” he said.

“He is probably the best big man in the league, so when you put the ball inside to him, the opposition has to get help because if they don’t he has a one-on-one situation and quite often he will overpower the other team’s big man because he is that strong.”

Losonsky and Ashton Khan were in this week’s BBL All Star Five after the 91-66 success at Surrey Scorchers.
