WORCESTER Wolves have released Josh Cameron after he was allegedly involved in an incident during their BBL Trophy semi-final against Newcastle Eagles.

The 24-year-old American arrived at the University of Worcester Arena in October and went on to make 19 appearances, but his last game came at Newcastle last Friday.

A spokesman for Wolves said they were “undertaking an investigation into events on Friday” before later confirming Cameron’s departure.

When asked what the events were, the club refused to comment further.

“Josh Cameron will be leaving the Worcester Wolves by mutual consent,” the spokesman said.

“We wish him well in the future.”

Cameron did not feature in Wolves’ 79-74 triumph at Manchester Giants in the British Basketball League on Sunday.

Head coach Paul James admitted Cameron’s departure was a “distraction”, but insisted it was important for his side to focus their attentions on the upcoming matches.

“Josh met with the club and it was mutually agreed it was best for the interests of everybody that he left,” he said.

“I don’t want to elaborate anymore as I want to try and focus on these very important games coming up.

“It is a distraction, but it is what it is, I am very matter of fact about these things.

“Things happen, but what I have to do is focus on the team and make sure they are mentally and physically prepared for what is going to be a fantastic weekend of basketball.”

James said he was not looking to sign a new guard despite Cameron’s exit.

“Josh was averaging about 20 minutes a game, so that time has to be shared amongst other people,” he added.

“We need to make sure the players see this in a positive light as this is an opportunity for somebody else to grab a few of those minutes.

“Although it leaves us a guard light, we have players who can play in multiple positions.”
