HEAD coach Paul James is looking forward to seeing Worcester Wolves’ new point guard Jordan Aaron go head-to-head with Newcastle Eagles star Rahmon Fletcher tomorrow night (7.30pm).

Aaron made a superb start to his Worcester career when he top-scored with 23 points in Wolves’ 92-91 victory at Leeds Force last Friday.

James described the 23-year-old’s debut as “exceptional” but admitted he would face a real challenge of his ability when he takes to the court to face Newcastle at the Sport Central.

Eagles point guard Fletcher has been a key player for the British Basketball League leaders this season and James believes his battle with Aaron could be key to the outcome of the match.

“It is going to be a test for Jordan to go from playing Leeds to playing Newcastle, who are one of the one best teams in the league,” the coach said.

“He is also going to be up against Rahmon and that is going to be an interesting match-up between the two point guards.

“But I am excited about it.

“We will see how Jordan performs but if he comes in, doesn’t force things and plays the way he is, then I am sure he will do fine.

“It is a good challenge for him.”

The American, who was playing for Portugal side CAB Madeira last season, only arrived two days before Wolves’ trip to Leeds.

James said he was impressed by how well Aaron adapted and is confident he will be even better after a full week’s training.

“Last week we only had two-and-a-half sessions with him and in that time you are trying to put in defensive and offensive philosophies and go through sets the guys have been doing for the last four or five months,” James said.

“But he has come in, listened, been attentive and picked up the plays very quickly.

“Sometimes players come in and they don’t want to upset the apple cart but he turned up and played his game.

“He looks like a really talented player and has given us an added scoring threat.

“He did some really good things during the game and the rest of the players have got to get used to the way he plays as well.

“But we have had another week of practice and another week to prepare.”
