THE British Basketball League crown may be out of Worcester Wolves’ reach but head coach Paul James insists they can still have a say on the title shake-up.

Third-placed Wolves head to leaders Newcastle Eagles tonight (7.30pm) looking to take the game and possibly the title out of their hands.

Newcastle currently lead the way with a 10-point cushion at the top of the table but nearest rivals Leicester Riders have five games in hand on the leaders.

And James said his side, who take on Leicester on April 1, were determined to make an impact on the race.

“We can’t win the league but we can have a say on who does win it,” James said.

“We have still got both Newcastle and Leicester to play, so we may have an influence in that.

“But, as far as we are concerned, we want to play as hard as we can in every game and try to win every match we have got.”

Wolves were knocked out of the BBL Trophy by Newcastle last month after losing both legs of the semi-final.

But, having ended Eagles’ 28-match winning streak in January, James is confident his side can see off the table-toppers and has urged his players to go out with an “aggressive” mind-set.

“We have definitely got the beating of Newcastle but everybody needs to come ready to play,” he said.

“We need to play with a high tempo, get after them before they get after us and just be really aggressive at both ends of the floor.

“We need to take the game to them and not sit back and allow them to dominate.”

Wolves captain Pavol Losonsky needs nine more points to reach 1,000 in the BBL Championship.

American Jordan Aaron is set to make his second appearance for the club after marking his debut with a 23-point haul in Wolves’ 92-91 win at Leeds Force last Friday. James admitted the point guard would be their key man again.

“With Jordan in the team, we can raise the tempo as he is very sharp and can push the ball down the court as quickly as possible,” James said.

“Hopefully, the other guys can run hard with him, so he can put pressure on Newcastle.

“If we could beat them on their floor, that would be massive for us. If we can keep it close going into the final few minutes, I am pretty sure we have got the beating of them again.”
