HEAD coach Paul James urged his players to finish the regular season with a flourish as Worcester Wolves gear up for the British Basketball League play-offs.

Wolves host Cheshire Phoenix tomorrow night (7.30pm) before visiting Glasgow Rocks on Sunday (5pm).

The double-header rounds off Worcester’s league campaign before the play-offs get under way the following weekend.

And James said he wants his fourth-placed side to sign off with back-to-back victories to give themselves momentum.

“We want to go into the play-offs off the back of a couple of good wins,” he said.

“We haven’t beaten Cheshire this season, so it would be nice to win our final game at home against them and then we have got the long trip up to Glasgow, which we want to win.”

Cheshire thumped Wolves 94-76 at the University of Worcester Arena in November before beating them 94-85 at the Northgate Arena in January.

But James insisted his team were not at their best in both games and said they had a “score to settle” at the arena.

“We were all over the place when we played them quite early in the season and Perris (Blackwell) and Ben (Eaves) were out hurt the next time we played them,” he said.

“This will be our last home game of the regular season and we are all looking forward to playing in front of a big crowd.

“When you set your goals out at the start, you want to win your home games.

“We have had some absolutely unbelievable crowds of late and some spectacular games as well, so hopefully the people of Worcester will come back and witness what should be another competitive game tomorrow night.”

Guard Ashton Khan is still recovering from a foot injury and James said he was keen to hold him back for the play-offs.

“If he is 90 or 95 per cent fit, we won’t risk him as we don’t want to put him back further with his recovery,” James added.

“He got injured in practice a few weeks ago and it was more severe than we first thought so it has taken time to settle down.

“But it has started to settle, so I am sure he will be ready for the play-offs.”
