HEAD coach Paul James insists Worcester Wolves are “right where they need to be” ahead of their play-off clash against Glasgow Rocks tonight (7.30pm) despite their poor form in the British Basketball League.

Wolves have ended the regular season with a run of four defeats in five games, including an 80-69 loss to Glasgow at the Emirates Arena last Sunday.

However, James remains in buoyant mood and believes his fourth-placed side, who face the Rocks in the second leg at the University of Worcester Arena on Sunday (4pm), can challenge for the title.

“It is not the way we wanted to finish the season, but if you look at it we have had more injuries and we have been unfortunate in some great games,” he said.

“Who knows we might go and turn it on and have three, four or five good games in a row now and end up winning the play-offs.

“I am certainly not prepared to dwell on the past because that has gone and we cannot do anything about that.

“We are in the play-offs and we finished in the top four where we wanted to be.

“We have made the BBL Trophy semi-final this year and we will hopefully make another semi-final to give us the chance to go to the O2 Arena.

“We are right where we need to be as far as we are concerned.

“Training has been good, we have been really focused and we are looking forward to the challenge ahead against Glasgow.”

Worcester had seen off Rocks in their previous three meetings before that record came to an end at the weekend.

But James, who is set to be boosted by the return of guard Ashton Khan from a foot injury, said supporters should not read too much into that result.

“We were not going to gain anything if we had gone all out to win the game as we weren’t going to finish any higher or lower in the table,” he said.

“Also, if you look at Leicester, Newcastle and Sheffield they all lost because everyone is gearing up for what is an important series of games coming up.

“It was a matter of getting everybody some court time, trying to spread the points across and actually come out the game with no injuries.

“We didn’t win the game, but we gained an awful lot out of it as far as the way they are going to play and what we need to do to stop them.”

He added: “We have beaten Glasgow three times this year, they have beaten us once, so it is all to play for. We have got two more games to see who progresses to the next stage of the play-offs and hopefully we can put in two good performances to make sure that happens.”
