WORCESTER Wolves have been boosted by the arrival of Jermel Kennedy who head coach Paul James believes can make a “great impact” in the British Basketball League.

The “explosive” forward has plied his trade in a number of countries, including Spain, Luxembourg, Germany, Finland and Uruguay.

And James is confident the well-travelled 26-year-old, who arrives from Spanish team CB Clavijo Logrono, will make his mark in Britain.

“The club has worked very hard to secure the services of Jermel because we believe that he has all the qualities that will contribute to making us a very good team this season,” James said.

“Jermel will contribute in many different ways, giving us some great options as I believe his all-around game is perfectly suited to the BBL.

“I’m sure he is going to have a great impact on the team and the league.”

Kennedy becomes the fifth player to join Wolves’ squad following the signings of Danny Huffor, Marek Klassen, Trevor Setty and Deondre McWhorter.

But 6ft 7in Kennedy’s skill and experience will no doubt strengthen James’ team having averaged 5.6 points and 3.1 rebounds per game in LEB Gold last season.

During the 2013/14 campaign, he was also a hit with TV 1862 Langen in Germany-ProB as he averaged 16.5 points and 7.2 boards per game.

A year later, Kennedy stepped out for AB Contern (Luxembourg- Total League) before signing with Finish team Porvoon Tarmo (Finland-1st Division) where he racked up 18 points and 9.3 rebounds per game.

The forward then moved to Club Atletico Marne Montevideo (Uruguay-Metropolitan), where he averaged 17 points and 7.7 rebounds per game.

Managing director Mick Donovan said he was delighted to capture Kennedy who holds a British passport and attended NCAA2 Lander University, playing in the PeachBelt Conference.

“I am sure that the Wolves fans will be excited to see Jermel join the club and hopefully show our ambition once again," he added.

"He is certainly a very explosive player, who has made a positive impact wherever he has gone.”
