WORCESTER Wolves’ new-look side may have only come together this summer but Jermel Kennedy feels like they have been “friends forever”.

The well-travelled 26-year-old forward was one of seven new players to join Wolves ahead of the 2016-17 British Basketball League campaign.

But, after just two competitive games, Kennedy says they have already shown “a lot of potential” to do well this season.

“I like how the team is working so far,” said the Canadian, who has played basketball in a number of countries, including Spain, Finland and Uruguay.

“Practice has been pretty competitive as well and the cohesiveness of the team has been great.

“I have been on many teams and guys don’t really get too comfortable with each other this early on.

“But we look like we have been friends and team-mates forever, so it has gone really well and I think, if we continue to do what we are doing, we are going to be pretty successful this season.”

Kennedy scored 23 points in Wolves’ 88-85 overtime victory over Cheshire Phoenix before being part of a 77-66 defeat at defending champions Leicester Riders last weekend.

“The first game (against Cheshire) ended up being a lot closer than I wanted it to be but we figured out a way to win and we did well against Leicester,” he said.

“We were in the game but just ran out of gas and had a couple of guys in foul trouble, which gave us a problem.

“We have shown a lot of potential and have got a good measure of what we need to work on, so I think it was perfect to have Leicester in the second game.”

Kennedy is also confident Wolves can see off Sheffield Sharks at the University of Worcester Arena tomorrow night (7.30pm).

“We played Sheffield in pre-season and won by 15 points,” he said.

“They are a pretty good team but, if we go in with the same approach we had last time we played them, we should be fine.”
