HEAD coach Paul James admits now would be “the ideal time” to add to his Worcester Wolves squad.

However, James does not want the new recruit to be a “knee-jerk reaction” as he looks to find the “right player” to fit into his side.

With space for one more foreign signing, Wolves are on the look-out for a “big man” who can improve their rebounding.

James revealed he had taken a closer look at “two or three players” but was happy to let the search continue.

“We are still looking because we feel we are potentially lacking in the big-man department,” said James, who has been boosted by the arrival of 6ft 9in forward Deondre McWhorter.

“We have been struggling with our rebounding, so we need to shore up that area if we can.

“But we want to make sure we bring in the right player for this team.

“We don’t want it to be a knee-jerk reaction where we just bring anybody in and they don’t fit into what we are trying to do.”

After beating Cheshire Phoenix on the opening day of the British Basketball League season, Wolves have suffered back-to-back defeats to Leicester Riders and Sheffield Sharks.

With no game at the weekend, Worcester have got extra time to prepare before taking on Glasgow Rocks at the University of Worcester Arena on Friday (7.30pm).

James continued: “To be honest, now would have been the ideal time (to sign a player) as we have got two weeks off but we have not found the right person yet. There are two or three we have looked at but I didn’t feel like they could give us enough.

“They would have done the job but probably wouldn’t have given us something different, so we decided not to go down that route.

“In terms of the time frame, we have got until February.

“We don’t want to have to leave it that late but we might win our next 10 games and then everything is all rosy.”

James said he also feared bringing in a new face could “disrupt the chemistry” already created at Wolves.

“We really like the players we have here,” said James, who made seven signings this summer.

“They are a good bunch and work hard on and off the court, so if we are going to bring somebody in it is going to have to be someone who fits into our mould.

“If we find a player who can help us in the rebounding department and give us presence inside, then we would certainly look at it.

“But they have got to be the right player.

“I think we have recruited really well this year and it would be a shame to bring someone in who then disrupts the chemistry we already have.

“We would have to get them into the flow of things and the longer it takes (to sign a player) the harder it becomes.

“But it is one of those things we are monitoring and I am looking at players every day.”
