WORCESTER Wolves are “close” to making a new signing — but head coach Paul James admits they “will not feature” at Glasgow Rocks on Sunday (5pm).

Wolves have struggled to find the right player to fill the vacant “big man” role since the start of the British Basketball League campaign in September.

But they have been forced to step up that search following 6ft 9in forward Deondre McWhorter’s exit last month.

And James revealed he had “identified” a player who would provide a “massive boost” for his side who have lost six of their last nine matches, including a 94-75 defeat to Surrey Scorchers in the BBL Cup last Sunday.

“We’re getting pretty close, so hopefully we will have confirmation of one player by the weekend,” he said. “But I am not getting too excited about it until it actually happens.”

James says he is hopeful Wolves’ target will arrive by “early next week” ahead of their home clash against Manchester Giants on Friday next week (7.30pm).

“They will not feature this weekend but hopefully the week after as long as everything goes smoothly as far as the contract is concerned,” he said.

“Once it’s done, it will be a massive boost for the team. But, until the contract is signed and the player here, we will continue with what we have and prepare for the next game as best we can.”

James also revealed Wolves were making ground on adding a second new face.

“We are still looking and talking to people,” he added.

“We have got two or three options we are looking at and are seeing if there is someone available.”
