WORCESTER Wolves head coach Paul James admits he does not know what to expect from a “very dangerous” Cheshire Phoenix side tomorrow (5.30pm).

In-form Wolves will be strong favourites to beat Cheshire, who are languishing in British Basketball League’s bottom three, at the Cheshire Oaks Arena.

But James says he is wary of the threat Phoenix pose and described them as their “bogey team”.

Worcester claimed an 88-85 overtime victory over Cheshire in the opening game of the season.

But they had lost their previous five meetings and Phoenix won 102-79 in October to draw level in their head-to-head tussles this term.

“We expect to win the game but Cheshire have been our bogey team throughout the years for whatever reason,” James said.

“They are a team who can’t be taken lightly because they have six or seven very good players who are all about 6ft 6in tall, very athletic and get up and down the floor well.

“They are maybe not as structured as they could be but that’s what makes them very dangerous because you don’t know what they are going to do from one day to the next.

“It is going to be a tough game, especially having played Leicester on the Friday night and then having to turn around and play Cheshire.

“It is probably one of our tougher weekends we have faced.”

James added: “It would be nice to separate ourselves a little more from the teams below and put pressure on the teams above us.

“I think the play-off places are up for grabs from fourth through to ninth.

“We can’t rest as teams around us are going to continue playing hard and keep putting points on the board to guarantee a play-off place so that is something we need to focus on.”
