TREVOR Setty has put Worcester Wolves’ “remarkable” turnaround in form down to the “wizardry” of head coach Paul James.

The 6ft 8in small forward insists he and his team-mates are determined to win the British Basketball League’s play-offs for their boss.

A run of 11 losses from the opening 16 games saw them slip outside of the top eight in mid-January and raised doubts over their ability to secure a place in the end-of-season championships.

However, Wolves have been almost unstoppable since then, winning 10 of their next 11 league matches to move up to fifth.

Setty admits James has to take “a lot of credit” for their transformation as they stunned leaders Leicester Riders 93-91 before claiming an overtime 103-91 victory at Cheshire Phoenix on Sunday.

“PJ is the wizard,” Setty said. “He has put us all together and I am very thankful to him for doing that as it has been one of the best experiences of my life.

“I am very honoured to be here and want to be able to win a championship for him as he has brought me together with all these great people.

“PJ has stuck by us when we were losing. He didn’t listen to the people who were telling him to blow it up. He stood by us and fought for us. We have had our skirmishes but he has brought the best out of me so I am happy to be playing for him.”

Setty was among a number of players to join Wolves last summer and said James had helped them to understand their individual responsibilities to the team.

“When we were losing we were lacking rhythm and no one really had a defined role,” said the 27-year-old.

“We had people trying, myself included, to do things that would not be successful for the team. It might bring individual success for a short period of time but not for the greater good.

“So you have got to give PJ a lot of credit for what has happened. He really tried to zone in on each of us and get us to focus on our roles even if we were losing.

“We didn’t want us to step out of what he wanted us to become and it has really worked out that way.”

Setty also feels the arrivals of Maurice Walker and Trey Zeigler in November and February respectively have been key to their revival.

The American is confident Wolves can continue their winning streak at home to high-flying Newcastle Eagles on Friday (7.30pm).

“We are as confident as a team can be right now,” said Setty who has previously played in the BBL for Plymouth Raiders and Surrey Scorchers.

“I don’t see us ever turning into what we were four months ago. We are a long way from there now.

“It has been a tale of two seasons. It has been pretty remarkable and I don’t think I have ever been a part of something like this.

“I have been a part of some pretty awesome teams but this has been crazy.”
