WORCESTER Wolves are hoping to beat the clock and have new signing Vidmantas Uzkuraitis registered in time for Sunday's BBL cup clash with Sheffield Sharks.
Player-coach Skouson Harker is excited about his latest capture and he said: "Vidmantas comes to us from the Lithuanian NKL league where he was an outstanding shooting guard, who can also play point guard.
"He averaged 20 points-per-game in the 2007/8 season and was already averaging 17 points after five games this season. "It will be a race against the clock to get him to Worcester for our cup game at the University which starts at 4pm on Sunday, but if it is humanly possible, Vidmantas will be playing in a Wolves vest this weekend.
"Once he arrives, we have a legit scorer from the outside who is a real fighter and, in addition, one who has a great feel to the game.
"Vidmantas has the ability to shoot the basketball with consistency from long range as well as creating opportunities for other players.
"Lithuania is a top-notch basketball country and we are fortunate that our Wolves advisor, Mick Donovan, previously the club's director of basketball, has some great connections with the Lithuanian federation. This is a direct benefit of those valuable links."
Donovan added: "We have spent four years developing our links with some very respected people within the Lithuanian game and it is always satisfying when we can attract good players who have a desire to study and play within the unique partnership that exists between the Wolves and the university."
Wolves general manager Susie Hart was absolutely delighted with the second high profile signing in three days after the return of Anthony Paez this week.
She said: "Our fans were told that work was in progress adding to our new-look team and their patience has been rewarded with the advent of Vidmantas and the return of Anthony.
"There will be high-class excitement for the fans this weekend, and every weekend, as both recent additions are high profile and proven scorers from both inside and outside the three-point arc.
"We continue our plan of trying our very best to get some silverware for our loyal supporters."
