WORCESTER Wolves will focus their push for the British Basketball League play-offs with a double-header weekend.
After crashing out of the BBL Trophy on Tuesday at MK Lions, the University of Worcester-based side host Plymouth Raiders tomorrow night (7pm) before heading to Everton Tigers on Sunday (5pm).
Wolves head coach Paul James wants his side to bounce back from the Lions 85-71 defeat and rediscover the form which saw them thrash Glasgow Rocks 90-75 last weekend.
“We have had good scoring opportunities in a number of games now but the difference against Rocks was that we shot the ball very well and found a way to win,” he said.
“But, when Harry Disy and Devin Smith were fouled out of the game at Lions, I felt we went a little soft.”
The Wolves coach is expecting two close games this weekend but believes his side can come out on top.
“Everton are there for the taking,” he said. “They are having an up-and-down season. We had a tough game against Plymouth in the Trophy last month and managed to come out on top. Hopefully, we can do that again.”
James knows his team must stop Florentino Valencia and Andrew Lasker when they face Raiders tomorrow night.
“In Valencia and Lasker, they have two great players — they can beat anybody on their day,” James added. The Wolves chief is also wary of Tigers’ new signing Trey Moore.
The former Cheshire Jets guard was last season’s BBL most valuable player.
James feels the battle between Moore and Wolves’ Danny Gilbert will be key in Sunday’s clash at the Echo Arena.
