WORCESTER Wolves will be looking to bag their fifth consecutive British Basketball League victory when they travel to the Milton Keynes Shopping Centre tonight (7.30pm).
Having beaten Essex Pirates, Everton Tigers, Plymouth Raiders and Glasgow Rocks, the University of Worcester-based outfit will be keen to extract revenge on MK Lions for blotting their copy book in recent weeks.
The Lions claimed a 85-71 BBL Trophy victory during that run of success for the Wolves and head coach Paul James will be looking for a better display than the 75-70 win over Pirates on Saturday night.
“It wasn’t our best performance on Saturday, I’m just pleased that we managed to show a little bit of character, stick to the plan and get the win,” James said.
“In the first-half we missed 10 of our 13 free-throws and that really needs to improve — we are just making life difficult for ourselves.”
Star guard Danny Gilbert top-scored in the Pirates success with 26 points, with fellow American Rod Middleton adding 18.
The win in Essex has moved the Wolves within two victories of the top eight and a place in the BBL play-offs.
But perfectionist James says it could have been so much better.
“We lost to Sheffield Sharks in over-time and we had narrow defeats to Worthing Thunder and Leicester Riders too,” he said.
“But the most important thing is that we try to keep this winning run going.
“We need to stay on the tails of teams like Everton and Milton Keynes and pick off a few results too.”
Since taking charge at Worcester, James has had to rebuild the team and try to mould them into a competitive unit.
“We try to keep our discipline and keep things simple,” James added.
“We are all growing in confidence in each other’s ability.
“There are a couple of things that we will be trying at Milton Keynes to see if we can disrupt their plays.”
