WORCESTER Wolves fell to their first British Basketball League defeat in four matches as MK Lions inflicted another loss on Paul James’ side.

Having been knocked out of the BBL Trophy by the Lions earlier this month at Middleton Hall, the University of Worcester-based side were unable to take revenge and continue their push for a place in the play-offs.

The Wolves start the stronger and opened up an early 4-11 lead, but the Lions responded with seven unanswered points to tie the game up at 11-11 and then they continued to stretch out their lead throughout the remainder of the first period to lead 27-14 at the end of the opening quarter.

The second period opened with the Wolves closing the deficit significantly, thanks in no small part to Daniel Gilbert, as he bagged nine points in an 11-0 Wolves burst to get the score back to 27-25.

The Lions kept their noses in front for the remainder of the half and with three three-pointers from Yorrick Williams helping the home side on their way they took a 50-42 lead into the locker rooms at the half-time interval.

In the second half the Lions defence stepped up their intensity and restricted the Wolves to just fourteen points in the period whilst netting twenty points of their own the home side were able to take a 70-56 lead into the final stanza.

In the final period the Wolves tried valiantly to get themselves back into the game but despite winning the final quarter 20-34 they could not close the gap enough to overturn the deficit as the Lions ran out eventual winners.

EJ Harrison led all scorers in the game bagging an impressive 28 points for the home side, while Rod Middleton led the scoring for the Wolves with 25 points personal.
