WORCESTER Wolves slipped to what could be a crucial defeat in the race for a British Basketball League play-off spot as they went down 93-84 to Airwaves Plymouth Raiders at the Plymouth Pavilions.

There was little to tell between the two teams in the opening stanza of an eagerly-anticipated game, the result of which will have had a big say in who claims the coveted eighth spot in the BBL final standings.

The Raiders led 23-22 after 10 minutes, but some handy work from American point guard Rod Middleton and big man Harry Disy for Wolves, meant that they led 45-41 at half-time.

The third period saw Wolves push on from this to lead 68-63 going into the final 10 minutes.

However, the Raiders were determined to pick up a key win, and battled back to eventually take the game 93-84, the scoreline an unjust indication of how close the game was, from tip-off to the final buzzer.

The Raiders were led by 22 points from Tino Valencia, while guard duo Anthony Martin, a former Wolves player, and Andrew Lasker had 19 points each.

For Wolves, Middleton shot the ball well for his 30 points, Disy weighed in with 22, and defensive specialist Daniel Gilbert scored a personal tally of 16 points.
