WORCESTER Wolves played some of their best basketball since the arrival of coach Paul James when they thr-ashed Everton Tigers in a British League game at the University of Worcester.

Wolves won 107-94, but the Merseyside outfit were flattered by the scoreline and only got into their stride when the game was beyond them as Wolves led by as many as 33 points mid-way through the third quarter.

Everton did score a huge 43 points in the last 10 minutes, topped off by two threes in the last minute by Olu Babalola, but by that time Worcester coach Paul James was using his bench and the starting five were sat down.

Wolves took to the court with Rod Middleton, Danny Gilbert, Modestas Sidlaus-kas, Giedrius Knysas and Harry Disy and, straight from the first tip-off won by centre Kynsas, Worcester controlled the game. They rush-ed into an immediate 19-4 lead aided by a pair of threes from both Middleton and Gilbert and the home side’s three-point shooting thr-oughout the night was a huge factor in Wolves’ success.

Middleton was highest scorer the previous evening for the Wolves in their defeat at Plymouth, where he notched an impressive 30 points. He continued his good form to register 27 against the Tigers.

Gilbert ended with 18, while Lithuanian Kastytis Nor-mantas hit 19 points as he came off the bench to make a huge impact for Wolves.

James was pleased with the spread of points across his team as Disy made 17 and Sidlauskas 11 to give the home side five scorers in double figures.

Disy underlined his importance to the side by making a double-double as he also collected 12 rebounds.

The Worcester coach was impressed with his team’s performance. “I’m delighted,” he said.

“We were not good in the last part of the Plymouth match and let a winning position slip away with some poor control.

“But we bounced back really well and I was pleased, not only with the win, but the manner of our victory.”
