WORCESTER Wolves seconds went down 79-54 to the undefeated Birmingham Mets in England League Division Four.
Third-in-the-table Wolves witnessed a sizzling start from the leaders who took a quick 16-2 advantage.
The hosts slowly battled back to bring the lead to within nine points after the first quarter.
Bench players Nick Johnson, Ben McGee, Charlie Higgs and Jordan Ranklin made big impacts with their defensive intensity as the half-time score read 34-29. A Damian Cope three-pointer made it 40-36 in the third quarter but Mets’ 17-9 run extended their lead to 57-45.
Wolves finished the season with their heads held high, despite a big win for Mets.
Head coach Guy Evans said: “I’m immensely proud of the players and what they have done this season. We have won 14 out of 20 games in the league and shield but unfortunately end up with nothing in the form of an extrinsic reward.
“However, it is clear to all of us at the club that the experience gained throughout this campaign has provided the second team with an excellent foundation for the next two to three years.”
Meanwhile, Wolves under 15s, who finished third in the Midlands Conference, lost 92-38 in the toughest possible draw at unbeaten national holders Manchester Magic in the play-offs.
