WORCESTER Wolves host Mersey Tigers in the British Basketball League tomorrow (7pm) bidding to make it a hat-trick of victories against the Liverpudlians this season.
The University of Worcester side have already beaten the Tigers twice this term — recording a 97-79 success in the BBL Cup and winning 91-62 in the championship.
However, despite those two resounding triumphs, head coach Paul James is not taking anything for granted as his players aim to put back-to-back defeats behind them, the latest being Tuesday’s 99-82 reverse at Milton Keynes Lions.
“We’ve played the Tigers twice and beaten them twice, but have had to work extremely hard to do so,” said James.
“We need to do a better job of staying focused and not letting things out of our control affect the way we play.”
The Tigers beat Durham Wildcats 85-81 last Friday but coach Tony Garbelotto added: “Paul has done a great job getting his team to play well together right from the start. There is no real star and they all play hard.
“We have been beaten badly the last twice we have played them, so for us we will simply be trying to be in the game going into the last five minutes.”
Wolves Supporters Club are running a coach to Sunday’s match at Guildford Heat. It leaves the university at 10.30am and costs £18, including entry to the game.
