WORCESTER Wolves head coach Paul James is not expecting Guildford Heat to be pushovers in the British Basketball League tomorrow despite three victories against them already this season.
Wolves take on James’ former side in front of the Sky Sports cameras in Surrey (3pm), under 24 hours after hosting Mersey Tigers.
An overtime 93-87 success against the Heat at the University of Worcester in the BBL Trophy kick started Wolves’ season in October before they completed the double in the competition with an 82-75 away triumph later that month.
James’ side also saw off Guildford 88-77 in the BBL Cup as Worcester secured a place in the quarter-finals.
However, the Wolves chief is not expecting an easy ride against the championship’s bottom club.
“We have played Guildford three times this season already, but they are a different team now,” he said.
“They have changed at least three players, two of which have been their Americans.
“Mike Martin, Julius Joseph and Martelle McLemore are still key for them, but they now also have Drew Lasker who has experience of the league and will make them more balanced.
“I’m sure Guildford are surprised by their poor start, but they have moved quickly to change things.
“I’m sure they are going to be a real threat to teams for the remainder of the season.”
Heat captain Mike Martin believes Wolves will carry a threat in all areas of the court.
He said: “Sherrad Prezzie-Blue, Tom-my Freeman and Richie Gordon are playing well and get most of the plaudits, but their two Lithuanian big men, along with David Watts, Callum Jones and Carlos Fernandez, give them a very deep team.”
