MILTON Keynes Lions head coach Mike New insists his side are out for revenge tomorrow night after accusing Worcester Wolves of lacking respect in their last meeting.

The sides go head-to-head at the University of Worcester (7pm) for the third time in the British Basketball League this season having shared the previous two encounters in Buckinghamshire.

But New has stoked the fire ahead of tomorrow’s clash by hitting out at opposite number Paul James for what he felt was an unsportsmanlike use of a time-out in the closing stages of Wolves’ 103-92 victory in December.

Worcester director of basketball James, however, claims he did nothing wrong and said Milton Keynes needed to learn to lose more graciously.

New, whose side won the first fixture 99-82 at the end of November, said: “We are 1-1 against them so far this season and our pace gave them problems in our first game, which we won.

“In the second game they were a better team than us on the day, but they disrespected us in the final seconds of that game and we haven’t forgotten that.”

James countered: “They play hard to the end but I had some time-outs to use.

“He thought that was disrespectful but I am just coaching my players to win games and he took exception to that.

“From our angle, I don’t know what that was all about but that’s Milton Keynes for you. When they are losing, they cry about it a bit.

“It was something and nothing and I was very disappointed with the reaction in that game.”

He added: “I teach my guys to win graciously and I think we do that.

“We take our beatings and when we win games we shake hands and leave.”
