WORCESTER Wolves host London Lions tomorrow (7.30pm) looking to lay down another marker in the British Basketball League title race.

In-form Wolves, who have won their last three games, want to keep their foot on the gas with victory over their championship rivals.

Wolves are level with leaders Sheffield Sharks on 22 points but have played one more match, with defending champions Leicester Riders and Newcastle Eagles making up the top four.

But London are closing in on the quartet and director of basketball Paul James feels success for his side at the University Arena would effectively kill off the Lions’ charge.

Worcester, who have broken the 100-point barrier in each of their last three games, can also secure the head-to-head against the Lions having won 63-62 in over-time when the sides met at the Copper Box in October.

“For London, they certainly need to try and win this game to keep their championship hopes alive,” James said.

“If we can win this match it almost puts them out of contention with the games they have left.

“For us, it would keep us firmly in contention so it’s a massive encounter.

“The players know that and we’ve trained really hard this week in preparation for tomorrow night.

“They are coming to our house and we want to keep a winning record in front of our crowd.

“The head-to-head is very important as well so there’s lots of things to be played for, for both teams for different reasons.”

He continued: “You want to pit yourself against the best in the league and London have some of the best players so we’re looking forward to this challenge.

“I think this game will come down to limiting our own mistakes.

“At this point, we have proven that we can beat anyone in the league. Our biggest enemy is ourselves.”

American centre Will Creekmore returns to the team after sitting out the 101-79 triumph against Surrey United following a bout of food poisoning but forward Jamal Williams is still out with a leg injury.

James said: “Will could have played last week if we had needed him.

“But it was a chance for Andreas Schreiber to get extended minutes and dominate the way he should do against a team like Surrey.

“I am very pleased for him and hopefully he can bring this forward into games to come.”
