WORCESTER Wolves have completed the signing of 6ft 9ins power forward Perris Blackwell.

The American is the third new addition to be confirmed by the British Basketball League club this summer as head coach Paul James’ squad begins to take shape.

He has significant playing experience at elite college level in the United States, where he attended the University of Florida from 2009 until 2012.

Blackwell recorded impressive statistics, averaging 13 points and seven rebounds per game in his final season.

In 2012, he transferred to the University of Washington and once again put up impressive numbers, averaging 11 points and seven rebounds per match in his final year.

Last season saw Blackwell begin his professional career, playing in Chile for Osorno, where he averaged 20 points and 12 rebounds per game.

Of his move to the University Arena, Blackwell, who turns 24 tomorrow, said: “I'm really excited and looking forward to joining this team and having a chance to compete for a championship.

“I am thankful for the opportunity to play for this club and can't wait to get after it. I'm ready to get over and get to work.”

James, who has also recruited Spaniard Javier Mugica and American Malik Smith so far this summer, said: “I’m delighted with the signing of Perris. He is a true big man with a really good skill set for his size.

“He is a smart player, who has come through some good basketball programmes, which will stand him in good stead for the Wolves. He will contribute in a very positive way and draw a lot of attention.”

Wolves play their first BBL home game on Friday, September 18, at home to Glasgow Rocks.
