ORLAN Jackman has been described as the “perfect addition” to Worcester Wolves after his late heroics against Surrey Scorchers.

With three seconds left and with Wolves on the brink of defeat, Jackman pulled off a superb three-pointer to send the match into overtime.

Worcester went on to win the game 96-88 and head coach Paul James admitted the Londoner's last-gasp score justified his decision to sign him in December.

“There were players we could have brought in who would not have made much of a difference,” said James, who snapped up the 27-year-old from CAB Madeira in Portugal.

“We wanted to bring somebody in who was going to have an impact on the team and he certainly has done that.

“He made that big three-pointer to take the game into overtime on Sunday and that was brilliant and justified him being there.

“He has fitted in really well with the guys and is the perfect addition to the team.”

The former London Lions star has averaged 14.5 points and six rebounds in his first nine games for the club and has already proved to be an inspirational figure for James’ men.

The Wolves boss said he was disappointed with the way his side, who had just come off the back of a stunning win over Newcastle Eagles, lost control of the game at Surrey.

But he admitted Jackman’s dramatic basket gave his team-mates a big lift as they pulled away in the five minutes of overtime.

“We were down by three, so we ran a play and actually got a shot away which Jay (Couisnard) missed,” James said.

“But the ball rimmed out long and it found the hands of Orlan, who took one dribble out behind the three-point line and his shot went in with three seconds left.

“Surrey were unable to score from there and in the overtime period there was only us in it really.

“It was a massive moment in the match and something you don’t see every day, so when you come and make a shot like that as a player you feel great.

“Your team-mates are also really loving you in that moment as you have got them out of a little bit of a hole.”

Wolves’ Perris Blackwell was selected in the BBL’s All Star Five after helping them beat Newcastle with a 67 per cent shooting effort for 20 points along with seven rebounds, four assists and two steals.

Pavol Losonsky was named on the bench.
