UPDATED: Tonight’s game has been cancelled after Worcester Wolves’ players and coaches were involved in a traffic accident.

Head coach Paul James has urged his “Jekyll and Hyde” Worcester Wolves team to show their good side at Leeds Force on Friday night (7.30pm).

Wolves produced what James described as a “special” performance when they ended Newcastle Eagles’ 28-match winning streak last Friday.

However, his side then came within three seconds of losing to Surrey Scorchers as Orlan Jackman’s three-pointer took the match into overtime.

Although they won 96-88, James said he was frustrated with his players as he believed the display demonstrated their inconsistency this season. “This is what I mean about us being a Jekyll and Hyde team as we have the potential but show it sometimes and not in other games,” he said.

“In the first quarter at Surrey, we carried on in the same vein as we did against Newcastle but then, all of a sudden, somebody tries to do somebody else’s job and it all falls apart.

“So a game that should be made fairly comfortable if we do what we are supposed to do becomes very hard and in the end we were perhaps lucky to win the game.

“We need to prepare and treat every game as if it is a Newcastle match and play with the same determination and commitment.

“That’s why Newcastle are so good as they treat everybody as if it is going to be their last game.

“They treat every team the same.”

Wolves have defeated Leeds twice already this season but James insisted their ninth-placed opponents still had the potential to beat them.

“If you look at Surrey’s record against us, it was not brilliant,” he said.

“We had two pretty comfortable wins over them but then we struggled on Sunday.

“So it is down to us, how we show up on the day and that we get the job done from the start.

“If we don’t, the likes of Leeds and Surrey are always going to stay in the game as they have got nothing to lose and they can beat you.

“Leeds have certainly had a better season than they did last year as they have won three or four times as many games, so they are improving.

“You can’t take anybody lightly and I think this year and in this league particularly, with the exception of Newcastle and Leicester, anybody can beat anybody.”

Worcester then host Glasgow Rocks in the BBL Trophy quarter-finals on Sunday (6.30pm) and James hopes his players will be able to recover quickly.

“I don’t think we have been great this year at playing back-to-back games,” he said.

“It is something we are trying to redress and talk to the players about.

“They have a day off after Leeds, so they can feel tired and rest up then but when it comes to Sunday they need to come out focused and perform again.”
