HEAD coach Paul James insists Worcester Wolves have no fears after being paired with reigning champions Newcastle Eagles in the BBL Trophy semi-finals.

Wolves are no strangers to upsetting the table-topping Eagles and beat them 94-80 in the British Basketball League late last month.

Worcester rolled to a comfortable 85-66 triumph in their Trophy quarter-final encounter with Glasgow Rocks at the University of Worcester Arena.

The tasty two-legged tie with high-flying Eagles will be for the right to progress to the final in Glasgow on Saturday, February 27, against Sheffield Sharks or Leicester Riders.

Wolves head to Eagles’ Sport Central Northumbria University on Friday (7.30pm) and then host Newcastle on Sunday, February 14 (6.30pm).

Against Rocks, the hosts built up a healthy 54-38 lead by half-time and did enough to maintain the cushion to the end.

Big men Pavol Losonsky and Perris Blackwell combined for 41 of their side’s points total, taking advantage of a raft of assists from the guards.

Coach James said: “It was a convincing victory although I thought it really should have been even more convincing had we not eased up later in the game.”

Looking ahead to the forthcoming semi-final, he continued: “It will undoubtedly be a challenge but we’ve already shown what we can do against them.

“To get to a final you have to play whoever is in front of you.

“We won’t be afraid. We’ll look forward to it.”

Asked about the motorway crash on Friday that led to the postponement of the BBL match at Leeds Force that evening, James added: “It certainly wasn’t pleasant but could have been even worse.

“We’re all fine now. It was one of those incidents that couldn’t have been avoided.”
