A NEW point guard looks poised to join Worcester Wolves in the next few days and head coach Paul James believes he could be the final piece in their “jigsaw”.

With the transfer window set to close at the end of the month, Wolves have been working hard this week to land another foreign import.

The search for a new signing comes after American Josh Cameron left the University of Worcester Arena club by mutual consent earlier this month.

James admitted his players were feeling “jaded” after a busy period of fixtures and believes a new addition could give them a much-needed boost ahead of the final eight games of the regular season.

“With Josh leaving, we are down one foreign import and a point guard, which is a position we have been struggling with this season,” he said.

“As there is still a lot to play for this season, we felt if we could find the right player to come in who is going to make a difference to the team, then we would make that move.

“We think we are pretty close to doing that, hopefully before the deadline closes at the end of this month.

“When you add a quality player to the already strong squad of players we have, all of a sudden the jigsaw is complete.

“We are not pinning all our hopes on this player coming in but, if he does come in, we certainly think he is going to improve the team and give us a good chance going into the play-offs.”

Departed duo Cameron and Malik Smith, who left Wolves early on after just three games, struggled to adapt to the British Basketball League. However, James is hopeful his target could hit the ground running.

“It depends on the player’s quality and him wanting to fit in with what is already happening,” he said.

“It is not about us adapting to the player. It is about him adapting to the way we play and actually adding to that.

“If you get the right person with the right personality and character, that is easily achievable.

“We are quite excited if we can get this player we are looking at and certainly think he is only going to help the team and not take us back.”
