HEAD coach Paul James says he will be using Worcester Wolves’ pre-season matches to “experiment” with his new-look side.

Wolves take on Sheffield Sharks at the University of Worcester Arena tonight before hosting Bristol Flyers on Monday (both 7.30pm).

Home fans will get the chance to see summer signings Andrew Bachman, Alejandro Navajas, Deondre McWhorter, Trevor Setty, Danny Huffor and Jermel Kennedy in action for the first time.

And James believes Worcester, who finished fourth in the British Basketball League last term, have the potential to play an “exciting brand of basketball” this season.

“For where we are at this stage, I am really pleased with what I have seen and with the personnel we have recruited,” said James, who was only able to hold on to Ashton Khan from last season’s squad.

“There is still plenty of work to do but I am happy with where we are right now.

“They are a talented bunch of players, so we are quite excited about the prospects of what we can do this season as we will be playing an exciting brand of basketball.”

However, having only played on the practice court, James says he is looking forward to seeing how his team gels and patterns of play work.

“Sheffield and Bristol should be good tests for us and games we are looking forward to,” said James, whose side begin their BBL campaign at home to Cheshire Phoenix on Friday, September 23.

“We will be experimenting and looking at how far we have come with our preparations.

“It will be a nice opportunity to play against different opposition and see whether the things we have looked at in training work or not and go from there.

“We have got a lot of team building stuff to work on as well but they have been working exceptionally hard and I am pleased with the progress we have made over the last few weeks.”

Wolves’ supporters will get the opportunity to meet the new players at the end of their match against Bristol next week.
