HEAD coach Paul James believes it is “the little things” Worcester Wolves need to get right to turn their form around.

Worcester slumped to their third successive British Basketball League defeat last Friday when Glasgow Rocks won 94-81.

It leaves Wolves, whose only victory came against Cheshire Phoenix on the opening day, third from bottom ahead of tomorrow’s clash against struggling Surrey Scorchers at the University of Worcester Arena (7.30pm).

Although “very disappointed” with his side’s loss to Rocks, James insists “nothing major” needs to change to get Wolves back to winning ways.

“It is just the little things we have got to do better as a collective and just show a bit more composure,” said James, whose side also travel to Cheshire on Sunday (5.30pm).

“If things don’t go our way, we need to make sure we go to our bread and butter offence, run those correctly and either get two points or a foul so we can go to the free-throw line.

“It is nothing major that needs to be sorted out. It is just those little things.”

Worcester led 28-19 but a poor second quarter saw Glasgow gain a healthy 52-39 advantage and James’ side could not recover.

He said the loss of forward Jermel Kennedy at the end of the first quarter was key to Rocks’ victory.

“We started off really well and were executing our game-plan pretty well,” James said.

“But when Jermel had a third foul in the first quarter we had to bring him out and things started to unravel from there. It was a very disappointing loss.

“We have looked at the tape several times this week already and there are some little things we need to sort out which will put us in a position to start winning games.”

With space for one more foreign signing, Wolves aim to bolster their squad with a “big man” who can improve their rebounding.

James is happy to remain patient in his search despite the three early defeats.

“We are still trawling to try to find the right guy,” the head coach added.

“We are looking every day and chasing up agents and contacts to get the right calibre of player who is going to help improve the team and give us what we need.

“We are not going to have a knee-jerk reaction about it. We have seen what this group of players can do, so it is very important we bring the right person in who is not going to disrupt what we have got.

“We have got to be patient and the guys have got to go out there, believe in each other and share the ball.”
