“QUICK-HEALING” Andrew Bachman could return before the end of the regular season as he recovers from a calf injury.

The small forward was ruled out for two months when he landed awkwardly in training in mid-February.

But head coach Paul James said the American was “two or three weeks” ahead of schedule and had started doing “strengthening work” on his injured calf.

“Andrew’s recovery is going very well,” James said.

“We don’t want to force him back too early and I don’t want to put a time frame on it.

“But who knows he might be back for the last three or four games of the season, if we are lucky.

“We are just taking it day-by-day and he is doing all the work he needs to do to get back.

“His recovery has been quite quick, so as long as that continues we are likely to see him back at the end of the season."

After Bachman was struck down, Wolves acted quickly to sign 6ft 6in forward Trey Zeigler, who scored 12 points in an impressive British Basketball League debut.

James was expecting to be without Bachman, but with the 24-year-old likely to return he said he was looking forward to having more options available.

“Calf injuries take a while to heal, so maybe Andrew has got a quick-healing body,” James said.

“He is probably two or three weeks ahead of where we thought he would be, so that is a positive.

“And when he returns it will help the guys. They are not having to condition themselves while they are playing so they can go flat out for seven minutes and then have a rest knowing we have got quality players coming off the bench who can fill those gaps.

“It will make us a much deeper team.

“It is going to be quality over quantity as far as court-time, but it puts pressure on each of the players to play well because if they don’t there is always someone else to step into their shoes.”

Power forward Maurice Walker has been named in this week’s BBL All Star Five after starring in Wolves’ 112-62 thrashing of Leeds Force last Friday.

The visitors could not cope with the muscle of Walker who proved too hot to handle under the hoop at the University of Worcester Arena. He went 75 per cent from the field en-route to 25 points and sealed a super double-double with 12 rebounds. And, for good measure, he dished up six assists and blocked two shots.

All Star Five: Mike DiNunno (Cheshire Phoenix), Jordan Davis (Sheffield Sharks), Alex Owumi (London Lions), Earl Brown (Cheshire Phoenix), Maurice Walker (Worcester Wolves).
