CHRISTMAS may be over but Worcester Wolves have delivered one more present to their fans.

Robert Gilchrist, the 6ft 9in Great Britain power forward, has confirmed he will stay with Wolves for the rest of the 2017-2018 season.

He joined on a temporary contract at the beginning of December and has quickly become an integral part of the team, helping Worcester reach the BBL Cup final at Arena Birmingham.

Since signing, London-born Gilchrist, 27, has averaged 15 points, seven rebounds and four blocks per game.

He said: “My first month has been positive for the team and myself after a long time not being able to play.

"It’s a pleasure and I’m so grateful to be healthy and playing again.

"Originally, I was strongly advised to simply get back playing in an ideal situation by GB coaching staff/management as well as long-time trusted coach Lloyd Gardner.

"This has been exactly that thanks to coach Paul James, Mick Donovan and the guys on the team who have done a great job allowing a smooth transition on and off the court.

"I look forward to getting in top form and helping the team moving forward in the new year.”

Head coach James said: "I’m delighted and sure the players will be just as pleased that Robert has decided to stay with us for the remainder of the season.

"Robert has already made a big impression both on and off the court and gives the team an element we have never had.

"This is great news for the team and we look forward to moving forward with Robert until the end of the season.”

Wolves managing director Mick Donovan said: "Everyone at the club is thrilled that Robert has shown this commitment for the remainder of the season.

"In the short time he has been with us, he has been fully engaged in all parts of the club off the court and clearly brings an exciting dimension on the court.

"This really bodes well for the remainder of the season."

More than 400 Wolves fans have bought tickets to support the team at the cup final on Sunday, January 28, as they take on Cheshire Phoenix.
