ROBERT Gilchrist insists Worcester Wolves need to press the “reset button” in a bid to quickly put their BBL Cup final defeat behind them.

Wolves arrived at the Arena Birmingham on Sunday with high hopes of adding another piece of silverware to their trophy cabinet.

But Gilchrist admitted his side “crumbled under pressure” as Cheshire Phoenix clinched the title with a 99-88 victory.

Wolves will now turn their attention back to the British Basketball League this week as they host leaders Leicester Riders on Friday (7.30pm).

And Gilchrist insisted it was important Wolves who play Sheffield Sharks in the semi-finals of the BBL Trophy next month focused on getting back to winning ways.

“You can’t win every game,” said Gilchrist whose side had won 12 of their last 13 games coming into the final.

“I think we need to go back, press the reset button and get right back at it.

“There is no question we have got a great group of guys and we are going to do what it takes to get the wins.

“There is a lot to play for, so by no means are we done this season and I am looking forward to us moving forward.”

Wolves who knocked Cheshire out of the BBL Trophy and beaten them in the league earlier this season levelled the game at 49-49 at the start of the second period.

But a 26-point haul from Malcolm Riley helped Cheshire burst into a double-figure lead and Wolves failed to recover.

“We need to watch our game tape and see where we need to make some changes,” Gilchrist continued.

“In most of our games we get a lead and although teams go on runs of scoring we are still able to finish on top.

“But in this game we went behind and I am surprised about that aspect.

“I think the calls went their way and we crumbled under pressure.

“We went down by 14 points at one point and it was difficult to come back from that.

“They had the momentum and had guys that showed up, so they got the job done.”

Forward Gilchrist who registered four points, two rebounds and one block admitted his ill-discipline in the early stages impacted on his own performance.

But the Great Britain international was keen to highlight the efforts of point guard Elvisi Dusha who scored 15 points while Michael Ojo top scored for Wolves with 18 points.

“I don’t think we took it lightly but they came out with more energy and got some big shots down the stretch,” Gilchrist said.

“They did a great job at keeping me outside of the paint so I could not block shots.

“I had three early fouls so I had to sit down and I could not be the defensive force that I usually am and that set us back quite a bit.

“I thought Elvisi did a great job and I take my hat off to him as he was probably our best player.”
