WORCESTER Wolves are looking to “shake up” the British Basketball League’s title race by gaining revenge over leaders Leicester Riders at the University of Worcester Arena tonight (7.30pm).

Leicester are four points clear of nearest rivals Newcastle Eagles at the top after winning 15 of their 17 league games.

Worcester are 12 points behind Riders in seventh position but are one of the in-form teams in the division and pushed Leicester all the way before losing 91-82 last month.

Head coach Paul James said his side were also determined to take their “frustration out” on Riders after going down 99-88 to Cheshire Phoenix in last Sunday’s BBL Cup final.

“We felt we had some opportunities against Leicester,” James said.

“It was a tied game going into the last three or four minutes but the odd mistake here or there and odd call that didn’t go our way saw us lose that game.

“We were right there with them though and with a little bit more composure we probably could have won that game.

“Hopefully we are very eager to get back at it and want to take our frustration out on somebody. It would be great if we could do that against the leaders.”

James also believes point guard Michael Ojo will make a difference having not arrived in time to face Leicester last time out.

Ojo top scored with 18 points in their loss to Cheshire at the Arena Birmingham last weekend.

“Mike is experienced, has shown that he can score in this league and has done against Leicester,” James continued.

“He will be another body that they will have to focus on. Hopefully that will work in our favour but we need to get back to playing the way we were playing, especially defensively.

“I thought last Sunday we weren’t playing as a unit defensively.”

Wolves have won 12 of their past 14 games in all competitions and will look to make a winning start to a month packed full of fixtures.

“It’s really important that we put in a really good performance against Leicester,” said James whose team visit Leeds Force on Sunday (4pm).

“We were on a tremendous run of form before that loss to Cheshire and we now need to get back to doing what got us into those positions.

“People are disappointed that they did not perform to the best of their ability so we are pleased that we have actually got somebody like Leicester.

“The concentration will be there and hopefully we can get the win and shake up the league a little bit more.”
