NEW signing George Marshall will not arrive in time for Worcester Wolves’ battle with Sheffield Sharks at the University of Worcester Arena tonight (7.30pm).

It has been a turbulent week for Wolves who were dealt a double blow when Brandon Parrish and Elvisi Dusha resigned after “a breach of player rules”.

Worcester moved swiftly to sign Marshall, 25, but the American point guard is not due to land until tomorrow.

With Robert Gilchrist in Australia representing England in the Commonwealth Games Wolves have been left shorthanded for their British Basketball League clash against Sharks.

But James was delighted to complete the signing of Marshall who is poised to make his debut when Worcester visit Sheffield on Wednesday (7.30pm).

“We were always up against it time-wise and to be fair everybody involved at the university and Wolves pulled out all the stops to try to get the deal done,” James said.

“They did a fantastic job but the endorsement letter (from Basketball England) did not come through in time.

“He is not going to be here so we have got to crack on and look forward to him arriving tomorrow.”

Born in Chicago, Marshall attended South Dakota State University where he gained numerous individual honours.

Marshall started his professional career at Aris Leuuwarden in the Dutch Basketball League where he played 26 games, averaging 13.8 points and 3.6 assists.

After starting this term at Bosnian side HKK Široki Marshall left due to a sprained ankle but the problem cleared up in January.

“George has had a good university career back in the States and has got some European experience,” James said.

“We are hoping he will be a good addition to the team.”

James said he was working hard to try to bolster his roster but expected to have only five first-team regulars available in George Beamon, Dallin Bachynski, Mike Ojo, Trayvon Palmer and Alex Navajas.

With Wolves low on players, James is set to call upon students Dominic Ives, George Emms, Zach Noble, Demi Ogunbona and Matthew Williamson.

“We can’t dwell on anything that has happened this week,” added James whose side are level on points with fourth-placed Sharks.

“It’s unfortunate but we have got to move on as we have got some very important games coming up.

“Yes, we will have a shortened roster but we have still got plenty of talent in the team. We will be very competitive.”
